2007 TOURIST NEWS
Even some AUSSIES ARE DOPEY
Yes a naked Aussie was love sick and decided he wanted to swim back home to Australia from Pattaya Beach in October 2007. Pattaya Police got a call at 3 a.m. that some dimwit had plunged into the sea at Pattaya Beach, opposite Soi 10, and gone wherever. They found a crowd of Thai and foreign tourists looking for the man in the dark waters with no clithese as his shirt and pants had been left in the middle of Soi 10. Bystanders said that the man had been walking on this soi with a bargirl and a bottle of beer. There had an argument, and the girl had left the man and jumped on a songtaew and taken off. .Witnesses said the man had then finished his beer and broken the bottle, crying his eyes out on the side of the road.out . He took off all his clothes, then ran to the sea and began to swim out from the shore. When he didnt come back after 30 minutes the police got a call. .Pattaya sea rescuers and Sawang Boriboon officers went out with inflatable rubber boats, life buoys and life jackets to look for him. They discovered that he had swum to a fishing boat that was moored 500 meters away from the shore. He was startled when he saw the officers and tried to swim away, shouting for them to leave him alone as he wanted to swim back to his hometown in Kalgoolie, Australia. The man became tired and went with the officers back to the shore. John Trevor, a lonely hearts club fan - 42-year-old Australian citizen was taken to the Police station to recover from his ordeal & perhaps to get a map of the currents so he can get a better idea of the shortcuts to Australia..Agence France-Presse reader and as you can see love at first sight does wonders to the brain department. Its not the first time this has happened nore the last time by such love struck farangs?
Pattaya Rental Bikes??
A foreigner will rent a motorbike and will sign a contract.
He or she will park the bike outside of their hotel overnight and the next day the bike is gone.
They contact the rental company who inform them that they must make a report of the theft at the Police Station. This is then followed by a demand for money to cover the cost of the bike from the rental company.
In the cases we have heard about, tourists have been forced to hand over between 40,000 and 50,000 Baht otherwise the company will pursue the case with the Police. We are sure that most bike rental companies who operate here in Pattaya are honest and law-abiding and this relates to only a small number of dishonest bike renters. In each case that we have heard about, the bike does not possess any form of insurance and the contract contains a clause that the hirer is liable for all costs in case of damage or theft. After the case has been cleared, the bike will be mysteriously returned to the rental company and the money paid by the foreign tourist is not returned. To avoid this happening to you, we would like to suggest the following:
- Only rent from reputable companies.
- Ensure that the motorbike is correctly insured to cover damages and theft.
- Check the contract for small clauses which could leave you liable for all costs relating to damage and theft by third parties.
- Try and avoid giving rental companies your Pattaya address.
- Buy a strong padlock and chain. Lock the bike away securely
- If you feel you have become a victim of such a scam, please contact the Tourist Police on 1155 so read this as it might save your bacon next time.
Briton killed after falling from passenger pickup in PattayaPattaya, Chon Buri - November 2007
A Briton was fatally injured when he fell from a pick-up truck modified as passenger vehicle in this seaside town early Thursday.
Mark Steven Morrison, 45, died of severe head injuries while police officials were waiting for an ambulance. The accident took place at 2:30 am in front of the Pattaya Police station on the Pattaya Beach Road. The driver, Khemphet Praditphan, 41, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, causing death.Khempphet told police that he picked up the British tourist, who appeared to be drunk, from Pattaya Soi 7 and he fell down just 100 metres from the spot.Khemphet claimed that the Briton, who appeared drunk, carried his foods bags and would not sit down and would not hold on to any rail so he fell off. The driver claimed that he was not speeding the vehicle--I bet..Well well well yet another person who can't abide by the rules and hold on in a pickup or did the driver do a quick get away??? Only those who saw it can say anything but of course no witnesses??? Its not the first time a foreigner has fallen out and not the last time bet your bottom & as always they blame the drink not someone who may have happened to give him a little shove!!!! but who knows what may have happened.

Is it worth this if the car is on drip feed!!!! Heck it beats the life out of us reading it all!!!! but then she may have had a good motive to save her car --it my have been full of bullion or drugs or just her handbag --but we will never know the true story unless she arises in the next year.
FORMER COUNCILLOR GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR KILLING DUTCH JOURNALIST:
A former city councilor from Chumporn Province was sentenced to death, and his accomplice to life imprisonment, for the murder of a Dutch journalist four years ago. The sentences were passed on December 21 in Pattaya Provincial Court by Judge Supoj Kerdsantia. Anupong Sutthanee, a former city councilor from Langsuan in Chumporn Province, and Seksan Promna were accused of murdering Jules Marshal Nicole Odekerken, a citizen of Holland, on November 17, 2003. Both found guilty of premeditated murder, and with destroying a corpse to conceal their crime. Seksan confessed and hence escaped the death penalty. Anupong and Seksan conspired to murder Odekerken, in the hopes of getting his property and his life insurance payout worth several million baht. Anupong had had a sexual relationship with the Thai wife of the deceased, and wanted money to fund his election campaign. He plotted the killing with Seksan, who was in Anupong’s debt after the former councilor had helped bail him out of jail in Chumporn.Whats next, will the accussed now seek another 4 years to delay what he did and use all means to get off the hook. Lets see what happens
ACCIDENTS / NEW YEAR Holiday road toll reaches 401
One passenger was killed and 22 others injured when a Bangkok-bound air-conditioned bus returning from the New Year holiday hit roadside stalls and overturned in Ayutthaya early yesterday morning. The bus driver, who fled after the accident, was seen talking on his mobile phone while driving. Passenger Kanya Artbamrung said the bus had switched drivers before the accident. The second driver who took over was making and receiving phone calls most of the time while driving. The bus was also speeding and overtaking many vehicles. She said the bus, which originated from the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani, then hit roadside stalls between kilometre makers 66-67 in tambon Lamtasao in Ayutthaya's Wang Noi district at around 4am and overturned, killing one passenger identified as Sak Chaisunthorn, 47, from Surin province. Twenty-two other passengers were injured, six seriously. They were rushed to Wang Noi and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya hospitals. Police are searching for the driver. Here we go again the buses have no knowledge of their driver who took off as per usual and left a whole bunch of passengers to fend for themselves. This happens I guess at every accident involving buses that are not licensed. But wouldn't you if you did the same in Thailand of course you would as who wants to take the rap???
Meanwhile, 401 people were killed in road accidents nationwide during the seven-day New Year period which officially ended yesterday, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department figures. The department also reported 4,903 injuries from 4,475 road accidents during the period. Source: Bangkok Post
